As an estate planning attorney, I have the privilege of helping individuals, families, and business owners protect what matters most through purposeful and customized solutions. Preparing for the future is an essential part of long-term financial well-being, and my goal is to make the process clear, approachable, and tailored to each client’s life and legacy.
Before joining The Rains Law Firm, I practiced corporate law at Paul Weiss in New York City and Morrison & Foerster in Denver, advising Fortune 500 companies, private equity firms, and founders on high-stakes M&A, corporate finance, and general corporate matters. That experience gives me a strategic and detail-driven perspective that I bring to estate planning, especially for clients with businesses, complex assets, or multigenerational goals. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and look forward to helping each person plan with confidence.
As a Coloradan born and raised, I’m thrilled to serve those that also call the Centennial State home. Outside of the office, I enjoy playing the piano and spending time on the golf course.

David’s Guiding Principles
Comprehensiveness
To me, estate planning is never just about a trust, will, or other document. It is about understanding a person’s full life, including assets, family dynamics, future goals, business interests, and what “legacy” means for them. I approach each client by listening carefully and exploring all aspects of their situation so that the plan we build protects not only what they own today but also supports the life they envision for the future.
Compassion
I understand that estate planning often comes at emotionally charged moments or involves deeply personal choices. I believe clients deserve an attorney who listens with empathy, respects their concerns, and guides them with sensitivity. Whether someone is planning for growing families, business succession, or generational wealth transfer, I strive to treat each client’s story with care and kindness, recognizing that beyond legal documents, I’m helping people secure peace of mind for themselves and their loved ones.
Purposefulness
Estate planning is more than asset transfer; it is a way to pass on values, hopes, and intentions to the next generation. I believe a well crafted plan should reflect what a client truly stands for and hopes their family carries forward. In my work, I encourage clients to think not only about financial outcomes, but also legacy: the values, lessons, and vision they want to leave behind. I aim to help them create plans that preserve not just wealth, but meaning.
